Agriculture in Eswatini is finding quiet strength in the hands of its smallholders. Through the Taiwan Africa Vegetable Initiative (TAVI), farming communities are learning to turn modest plots into models of sustainability and shared prosperity.

Partnering with Thrive for Good SA, the programme equips farmers with practical training in organic vegetable production, reviving traditional crops while opening pathways to income generation. What began as a technical collaboration has evolved into a grassroots movement, one that fuses modern agronomy with community resilience.

Backed by Taiwan in Eswatini, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the World Vegetable Center, TAVI’s approach is rooted in both science and social renewal. Trainers like Nompumelelo describe it as “a garden of hope,” where each seed planted represents progress, toward nutrition, empowerment, and local self-reliance.

In villages across Eswatini, these gardens are not merely producing food; they are cultivating confidence, cooperation, and a quiet revolution in the soil.
