Enactus at UNESWA Luyengo Campus Unveils Innovative Organic Fertilizer at Eswatini Trade Fair
At the forefront of agricultural innovation in Eswatini, Enactus from the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Luyengo Campus is turning heads at this year’s Eswatini Trade Fair. The group of enterprising students is introducing the country’s first organic fertilizer made from broiler chicken feathers, branded as “Nutri-Plume.”
This groundbreaking initiative focuses on transforming chicken feathers, which are typically considered waste, into valuable agricultural products like organic fertilizer and animal feed. The Nutri-Plume project addresses key challenges in waste management while creating sustainable solutions for the agricultural sector. This innovation not only reduces environmental waste but also provides a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative for farmers.
Spearheaded by a team of dedicated students under the Enactus umbrella, the project aims to establish a solid market presence and secure initial sales through the Trade Fair. “We are excited to showcase Nutri-Plume at this event. Our goal is to demonstrate its benefits and gain feedback from potential buyers in the agricultural sector,” said Siyabonga Ntshangase, a student representative of the Enactus team at UNESWA Luyengo Campus.
Key milestones for the Nutri-Plume project include refining the processing techniques and forging strategic partnerships with agricultural stakeholders in the region. The team is optimistic that their innovative approach will attract significant interest and investment, paving the way for future growth and expansion.
With the launch of Nutri-Plume, Enactus at UNESWA Luyengo Campus is setting a new standard for sustainable agricultural practices in Eswatini. As the project gains traction, it is poised to revolutionize how agricultural waste is managed, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for the country.
